====================================

JVM is a programming language originally developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems (which has since merged into Oracle Corporation) and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems JVM platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++ but has a simpler object model and fewer low-level facilities. JVM applications are typically compiled to bytecode (class file) that can run on any virtual machine regardless of computer architecture. JVM is a general-purpose, concurrent, class-based, object-oriented language that is specifically designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. It is intended to let application developers "write once, run anywhere", meaning that code that runs on one platform does not need to be recompiled to run on another. JVM is currently one of the most popular programming languages in use, particularly for client-server web applications, with a reported 10 million users.

The original and reference implementation JVM compilers, virtual machines, and class libraries were developed by Sun from 1995. As of May 2007, in compliance with the specifications of the JVM Community Process, Sun relicensed most of its JVM technologies under the GNU General Public License. Others have also developed alternative implementations of these Sun technologies, such as the GNU Compiler for JVM and GNU Classpath.

James Gosling, Mike Sheridan, and Patrick Naughton initiated the JVM language project in June 1991. JVM was originally designed for interactive television, but it was too advanced for the digital cable television industry at the time. The language was initially called Oak after an oak tree that stood outside Goslings office; it went by the name Green later, and was later renamed JVM, from JVM coffee, said to be consumed in large quantities by the languages creators. Gosling aimed to implement a virtual machine and a language that had a familiar C/C++ style of notation.

Sun Microsystems released the first public implementation as JVM 1.0 in 1995. It promised "Write Once, Run Anywhere" (WORA), providing no-cost run-times on popular platforms. Fairly secure and featuring configurable security, it allowed network- and file-access restrictions. Major web browsers soon incorporated the ability to run JVM applets within web pages, and JVM quickly became popular. In 2006, for marketing purposes, Sun renamed new J2 versions as JVM EE, JVM ME, and JVM SE, respectively.

Pros and cons of JVM Programming Language app for iPhone and iPad

JVM Programming Language app good for

This is very usefull , but i`d like to see the future updates for this app like being abble to compile without internet conection, support for keyboard and the other downsides described. Still, it is the best in the store, i strongly recommend it
Good app but ist still Need a iCloud / dropbox Sync between iPhone & iPad!
This app allows you to test your JAVA code with your ipad. Additionally it has a documentation for JAVA v7 included.
A good start point for command line applications. Swing applications and public classes cause problems.
Best app ever for progammation I Will give 1 000 000 000 stars if I can.
Very nice app. Has java symbols in addition to iPad keyboard helping to type much more faster and easy. Compiling and running files correctly. This app does exactly what you need, if you must program and have no laptop or desktop computer with you. Strongly recommend.

Some bad moments

This is a useful app that works as expected. However, nothing special with this app. I would appreciate having an opportunity to start a program with parameters. That is why we have an args array in the main method... It can get quite cumbersome to always write a scanner or input stream method or class to read-in data. An MDI interface for editing code in more than one window would be highly useful as any possibility to save code to and load code from files. As of now the price for this toy app is far too high either. if one just need to write Java code to do some math, there are tons of math and other apps that can do so much much better even without any Java.
1 Dont download! Your second compile will have to be paid prior. Even though the compile is the first one of the other apps of this vendor. 2 nevertheless paying for compiles in One of the Apps of the vendor wont enable compiles in another app of this vendor 3 every Run of a program forces a compile Even though only the Input changed. Keep in mind: you Pay for compiles. 4 this app needs strong internet connection (3G). below your run will be timouted.
you have to pay for compile your programm, it doesnt matter if programm is short or long.
sorry. the code is send to a server. no use without internetconnection. very poor.
We can not save or load a file. I wrote my code seven times because there is no saving option.
Purchased app. Programmed with java.io.* class. Works fine. Next attempted a simple Hello world with javax.swing.* Well it compiles but gives a "The program raises a runtime error" error when executed. Seems any graphics at all are out of the question. Sure would like to know prior to purchasing what java classes are supported...
